Hewlett - Gates Foundations support

Pratham will be able to extend its Read India campaign to 100 districts of India spread over 10 states for a period of 3 years thanks to a grant approved by The Hewlett Foundation in early June 2007. The grant will support the Read India agenda of ensuring that all children learn to read, write, and do basic arithmetic. It will also support work on Reading to Learn, to go a stage beyond the basics. This $9 million grant to Pratham is the first grant awarded by a partnership between the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to improve the quality of education in developing countries. Together, the two foundations have committed $60 million to improve learning outcomes. Apart from the obvious significance of this funding, Pratham considers this grant an endorsement of its strategy, ability, and its aspirations to impact learning of Indian children nationwide.
